Proud to be awarded gold membership of The 5% Club

A dynamic movement of employer-members working to create a shared prosperity across the UK, The 5% Club, has recognised our commitment to invest in our workforce and has awarded us gold membership.

The 5% Club exists to help its members, and all employers, increase further the number, quality and range of earn and learn opportunities across the UK.

As a member we have demonstrated significant contributions to the development of our employees through ‘earn and learn’ schemes, such as apprenticeships and formal training programmes.

Get to know The 5% Club

The 5% Club was created by Leo Quinn, CEO of Balfour Beatty, in 2013 in response to high youth unemployment and a lack of skills in the workplace.

It’s his belief, which we share, that employers – the job creators – are best placed to know the skills that will drive our future shared prosperity in the UK.

We are proud to be part of The 5% Club and join more than 900 member companies, across the UK, committed to providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities.

The 5% Club’s The Employer Audit is a unique scheme which validates an employer’s activities, explores future plans and commitments, as well as examining approaches to quality, social mobility, diversity and inclusion.

From an impressive list of 180 members who took part in the audit, IMH is one of 120 employers who met the gold standard.

Members of The 5% Club collectively employ:

  • More than 1.6 million employees
  • 70,000 apprentices
  • 16,000 people on graduate programmes
  • 7,500 sponsored students

This means more than 93,500 people in the workplace have been given skills-based training opportunities – which is just incredible!

James Griffiths, Managing Director at IMH commented: “We are delighted to have been granted gold membership of The 5% Club, as we have a shared belief that employers – the job creators – are best placed to know the skills that will drive our future shared prosperity in the UK. And we actively look at ways in which we can provide a valuable learning environment for all of our employees and develop the future workforce in Teesside.”

Mark Cameron OBE, Chief Executive at The 5% Club added: “Our Employer Audit scheme recognises the efforts of all employers who invest in their workforce through a broad range of workplace learning schemes. It is fantastic that in these challenging times so many are able to commit to the Employer Audit and to gain the credit for their efforts, and that the majority are striving to expand their schemes over the coming years. Their efforts and achievements are to be applauded.”

Gill Cronin, Director of Operations at The 5% Club said: “Having seen The Club grow to more than 900 members, I am always impressed at the commitment, drive and energy our members channel into offering “earn and learn” skills opportunities. It is inspiring to see how these companies are all contributing to the future of skills in our economy.”

Our commitment to people

As an innovative hydraulics company, we draw upon extensive technical knowledge, experience of real-world applications and understanding of a wide range of industrial environments to engineer solutions for customers. And through all that we do we have six core values that are at the heart of this:

Safety – Zero harm is paramount.

Quality – Our best should be the best.

Integrity – Our ethics underpin our performance.

Respect – We value every individual equally.

People – Your progress is our priority.

Pride – We strive for perfection. We practice precision.

With the training programmes we run across our entire workforce, as well as the support we provide to our apprentices and newly qualified engineers we demonstrate our commitment to our people.

And it shows, as we still have apprentices working with us today, long after they have completed their training and have long-standing employees who have been with us for more than 20 and 30 years.
