HYDAC demonstrating their new Ballast water treatment

The problem 
When discharging ballast water, organisms – amongst which are bacteria, plant and animal plankton, viruses but also small fish, crustaceans or jellyfish – are released at the harbors. The Ballast Water Convention passed by International Maritime Organization (IMO) in February 2004 in London has decreed that from 2009, ballast water in ships must be treated.
