Apprenticeships

IMH is a leading hydraulic engineering company focused on high level technical service and project delivery. We are based in Middlesbrough and operate throughout the UK and world-wide.

The IMH Apprenticeship Scheme is an integral part of the company’s philosophy to train home grown talent to compete on a world stage to deliver its hydraulic engineering products and services across the globe. IMH’s apprenticeship scheme was established in 1995 and the company has consistently invested in Apprentices. In 2011, we received the National Skills Academy award for Long-Term Contribution To Apprenticeships.

Each year we recruit Apprentices in Mechanical Engineering, Pipefitting and Welding. We usually recruit from local training colleges. We look for apprentices who have a genuine interest in engineering, who can demonstrate commitment to developing skills, who have a great attitude towards work and personal development and who have an excellent attendance record at school and college.

Depending on the training route, we also require Apprentices to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including the higher paper in Maths for Mechanical Engineering).

Apprentices must also be ready to travel within the UK and eventually abroad, as this is a key part of our work.

During an apprenticeship you will follow IMH’s rigorous training programme, that is delivered and assessed additionally to the national apprenticeship framework/NVQs. We have a dedicated Technical Trainer who will deliver practical & theoretical training and conduct assessments. You will also have the opportunity to attend a course delivered by the National Fluid Power Centre.

For those staff who display commitment to progressing their career, we offer sponsorship through a degree in Engineering.

A career with IMH offers world-wide travel opportunities and a constantly varied work schedule across different sectors of industry and different scales of systems.

We recruit the best talent who want to grow with us to become the best Hydraulic Engineers, Welders and Pipefitters in the industry and who display the excellent attitude to work and learning required to get them there.
